Pretty Little Liars Recap Season 2, Recap 1- 13

Adapted from a book written by Marlene King, Pretty Little Liars is an American teen drama mystery/thriller television series set in Rosewood, Pennsylvania, following the lives of Aria Montgomery (Lucy Hale), Spencer Hastings (Troian Bellisario), Hanna Marin (Ashley Benson) and Emily Fields (Shay Mitchell), whose lives are being haunted by a mysterious "A."

My interest for Pretty Little Liars grew in the beginning of season 2, because I felt the storyline of the show really began to evolve. I am really into those movies with suspense, though I am not too gutsy, with horror movies, thus PLL were the ideal series for me. Thus, if you need a dramatic thriller to keep you on the edge of the seat, PLL is my recommendation.

After the disappearance of Alison DiLaurentis (Sasha Pieterse), the quintet of friends fell apart. Only reuniting one year later after the body of Alison was found. This series of unfortunate events bombard the girls one after another, as they encounter a mysterious figure by the name of "A" who presumably stalks the girls, threatening to unveil their deepest and darkest secrets; secrets that only Alison knew.

Returning with its second season, the first season that premiered on January 3rd 2011 kicked off with the girls reuniting to attend Alison's funeral. This comes followed up by the girls continually receiving text messages from 'A' who commands them to do certain things - otherwise face the consequences of having their secrets exposed. Initially, the girls thought 'A' was Alison, however, this became impossible because of her death, so the secret remains, who is 'A'?

Season 2 concentrates on the development of 'A' and her power to manipulate the girls. A brief summary of the episodes that have already aired are as follows:

Episode 1, "Ian is still Alive" - The girls are at the scene of Ian's supposed death after a confrontation with Spencer regarding videos that Ian possessed that detailed the girls entire lives. After returning from questioning by police, they're confronted by their parents who are sending them to a therapist in order to seek help - the parents believe the girls are lying because Ian's body had disappeared from the scene. Spencer's dad furthermore, forbids Toby from seeing Spencer believing it is a "bad influence."

Episode 2, "The Goodbye Look" - Jason who is Alison's brother returns to Rosewood after leaving when Alison went missing. The girls witness him throwing numerous items that was a tribute to his sister which the family was unwilling to initially throw out. Life gets difficult for the girls as they are now forbidden to hang out with each. A teacher, Ezra leaves Rosewood High and Aria receives closure for their secret affair. Spencer's sister Melissa questions Ian's whereabouts because she believes Ian would never leave their baby behind. The manipulative nature of 'A' strengthens as 'A' manages to enter Emily's room to delete the evidence of Ian spying the girls.

Episode 3, "My Name is Danger" - Toby (Keegan Allen) has been hired by Jason to help him build a new fence. Meanwhile, Emily's parents wants to move to Texas however, Emily refuses. Thus, she shows her mom a letter from the college scout, promising her a scholarship if she stays. So Emily forges a new letter to make it seem like a guarantee. However, she decides not to lie and destroys the forged letter. 'A' manages to reconstruct the letter and leaves it for Emily's mom. Additionally, Spencer garners evidence that Melissa is still contacting Ian and that Ian is still alive.

Episode 4, "Blind Dates" - Aria's mom becomes a full time English teacher at Rosewood High. Spencer tracks down Wren a previous friend she hooked up with, where he admits to been giving Melissa medicine for Ian. The episode then focuses on the therapist's office being trashed with "Nosey B*****s Die" with an 'A' graffiti-ed on the wall. Later at night Spencer, stalks Melissa to a barn where she hears Melissa scream. Spencer who was with her group runs into the barn to see what had happened. Before their eyes was, Ian's dead body with a suicide note.

Episode 5, "The Devil You Know" - Despite being forbidden to be together, the girls gather around the lunch table to talk about Ian's death. Emily takes out her iPad with a picture of Ian's suicide note and Officer Garrett shows up to tell them Ian’s body had been decomposing for a week before it was found! The girls conclude that “A,” not Ian, was the one texting Melissa.

Episode 6, "Never Letting Go" - Jason has been haunting himself with the memories of the night of Alison's disappearance - contemplating that it possibly could have had been him who killed her. Aria attempts to recover his memories that night to clear his name. Another memorial for Alison is underway, when Alison's mom encourages the girls to wear 4 of the dresses that Alison picked out before her death. Hesitant, the girls give in to 'strut their stuff in her gowns'. The annual fashion show runway begins where 'A' pulls off her biggest scheme yet as she projects a picture of Alison’s face surrounded by flames on the catwalk backdrop.

Episode 7, "Surface Tension" - Emily moves into Hanna's household while Emily's mother moves to Texas to live with her husband. Aria gets caught up in a love triangle with Ezra and Jason where she begins fantasizing an affair with Jason. The Montgomery's fall into a deep hole of trouble after the police arrest their son, Mike for breaking and entering. Whilst Toby is working on the fence for Spencer's dad, he unearths a hockey stick that says "Hastings". Spencer questions her dad about the stick after seeing her father burning it. Flashbacks ignite as she remembers lending the stick to Alison before her death so Alison could pursue an anonymous Hockey player.

Episode 8, "Save The Date" - Stalking Jenna, the girls sees Officer Garrett making love to Jenna. Mike continues to act shifty with his bad-doings getting caught up with angst and quarrels with his parents. Emily gets hospitalized after collapsing on the floor next to her locker. Emily finds out she’s been diagnosed with an ulcer, and while she gets some much needed rest, Wren pops in to tell her that she’s tested positive for human growth hormones - all of which are A's doings. Aria and Spencer go undercover to steal Alison’s autopsy report to find out that she was hit on the head from behind by a weapon with a curved, blunt edge and was buried alive. This brings out the suspicion that her father 1) is the killer or otherwise 2) he is covering up for someone.

Episode 9, "Picture This" - Spencer stalks Jason and sees him getting infuriated when his gardener approaches his shed. Believing that there is something spooky about the shed, she decides to venture into it further into the night once Jason leaves. Both Emily and Spencer sneak into the shed to see endless processed pictures of Aria sleeping. The girls hear Jason coming, so they rush out of the shed, leaving behind their flashlight. They run to tell Aria and return to the shed. However, once they do, everything that was in the shed is gone. Is Jason obsessed with Aria?

Episode 10, "Jason and Ian's secret club" - Aria confronts Jason about the pictures, and he explains that he had developed them from a roll of film that Ali had taken before she died. Aria agrees to meet with Jason so he can give her a box of Alison's stuff, even though Spencer thinks it's a really bad idea. At a massage parlor, Emily gets the massage of her life. Unfortunately, she later realizes that it was given by "A." Spencer and Toby stay at home to pack up Ian's stuff when they discover that Ian, Jason, and Garrett were all in some kind of secret club called the "N.A.T. Club," (apparently named after a Latin expression that refers to "Seeing All.") Hanna and Mona goes horse riding with her soon to be step sister. Losing their horse, they walk back to the stable where Hanna says more than nice things about Kate.

Episode 11, "I must confess" - The girls finally explain about "A" to their therapist. Dr. Sullivan wants to help the girls take "A" down, so she speaks to the the grade about bullying. This provokes 'A' where 'A' sends a tape of Dr Sullivan's speech. Acquiring the tape, Dr. Sullivan tries to get the police to figure out who had taped her conversation. Coincidentally however, while going through the police files about Alison's case, Dr. Sullivan realizes that she knows who "A" is. This ultimately, makes her the next victim of 'A's.

Episode 12, "Over My Dead Body" - 'A' becomes more approachable to the girls, where 'A' leaves a HUGE crate with three dolls, each corresponding to one of the girls ( with the exception of Emily). The dolls each have a recorded message with a demand that the girls must carry out otherwise, Dr. Sullivan will die. For Aria, she must confront Ezra's ex Jackie, Spencer must keep Toby safe while Hanna is instructed to destroy her dad's wedding. Emily later finds a doll on her backseat while she is driving to a wedding, where she is given instructions to follow the GPS. Emily falls into unconsciousness later on, as she meets Alison who claims to know who 'A' is. Alison gives her a choice to return back to reality or to follow her, however, before Emily could answer and find out who 'A' is, Emily wakes up to her three friends.

Episode 13, Halloween Special, "The First Secret" - This episode takes place all the way back in 2008, when Alison was still alive. It continually flashes back to the contemporary time period where the girls are been questioned at the police station. Noel is currently holding a Halloween Party and invites Alison, along with her friends. Jenna moves into town with her mother and is also invited to the party. This episode pretty much details the day of Alison's disappearance.
