With the Oscars passing by Marlow Stern has compiled together a list of this year's nominees and paired them with their most embarrassing roles in the past. It is always rather interesting to see the actors and actresses you have grown to love, in their first appearing role.
5. Mark Ruffalo: Just Like Heaven Academy Award Nominee: Best Supporting Actor, The Kids Are All Right.
Now I don't know, I'd have to disagree with this one. Despite being a good actor, he was put on the list as being too subtle for a lead role in a romantic comedy, and used a clip from the final scene in Just Like Heaven as proof. Now, yes that scene was rather awkward, but because the circumstances were awkward. And romantic comedies always seem to be trite. But I think he can pull off the lead role in those genres.
4. Colin Firth: The Last Legion.
Academy Award Nominee: Best Actor, The King’s Speech.
Apart from the trailer looking interesting, this film actually did rather poorly after its release. It's a shame really, because I am both a fan of Colin Firth and the King Arthur story. But at number four he is on the list.
3. Amy Adams: Cruel Intentions 2 Academy Award Nominee: Best Supporting Actress, The Fighter
Based on the clip Amy Adams certainly has come a long way since this, and thank goodness for that. That's all I have to say.
2. James Franco: Whatever It Takes.
Academy Award Nominee: Best Actor, 127 Hours.
Playing the high school jerk, with the cliche goal of getting the girl, based on a bet. James Franco makes his first role not so memorable.
1. Jeremy Renner: National Lampoon’s Senior Trip.
Academy Award Nominee: Best Supporting Actor, The Town.
Now I wasn't shocked with the winner of this list, and agree completely. Seeing Jeremy Renner from The Town, it is even hard to believe that he once starred in a movie so goofy like National Lampoon's.
Congratulations goes out to them from making it out of those roles and coming on top. To view the whole top ten, along with Marlow's reasons, head here.
Now, do you guys agree with the list?
